Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis moves in an opposite character development process than A Doll's House. Gregor in Kafka's novela begins with his morals and beliefs holding strong, but as time goes on and his condition remains unchanged, he slowly loses all of his desire to retain a sense of being human. He lets his life wither away instead of becoming accustomed to his new form. In contrast, Nora in Ibsen's play is a boring, one-dimensional character at first and then becomes more emotionally sound as her lies and deceits are unfolded.
